Title User-centred media - but who is the user? Abstract A lot has been said and written on the changes brought about by the internet compared to pre-internet times, much less on what remains or is likely to remain unchanged. There is a lot to learn from how content has traditionally reached the consumer moving across myriads of value chains. A combination of factors (tradition, business, law etc.) tends to preserve a role for those value chains. Instead of seeking abolition of those roles it may be worth exploring how they can be mapped to a digital world and what benefits such a mapping may bring. Biography Leonardo Chiariglione obtained his M.S degree from the Polytechnic of Turin and his Ph. D. degree from the University of Tokyo. During his career he launched several initiatives. Among these are MPEG, the Digital Media Project and Digital Media in Italia, which he chairs. He is the CEO of CEDEO.net a company advising multinational companies in the area of digital media and exploiting its approach to technology to launch successful start-ups. Dr. Chiariglione is the recipient of several awards: among these the Eduard Rhein Foundation Award, the IBC John Tucker Award, the IEEE Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award and the Kilby Foundation Award. |
